Walter Hartwell White (AKA Heisenberg) is the main protagonist in the American fictional television drama series Breaking Bad. Walter White's character was created by Vince Gilligan and portrayed by Bryan Cranston.

Walter White was once a promising chemist who was one of the founders of the multi-billion dollar company Gray Matter. He abruptly left the company, selling his shares for $5,000 and subsequently moved to New Mexico to become a high school chemistry teacher. After being diagnosed with lung cancer, he resorts to cooking methamphetamine and dealing drugs to ensure his family's financial security. Walter's evolution from family man, and mild-mannered school teacher into a ruthless criminal mastermind and murderer is the show's central focus.
