Bob Marley (Nesta Robert Marley), was born 6 February 1945 and died 11 May 1981, was a Jamaican musician, singer and songwriter. He was the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the rocksteady, ska, and reggae bands The Wailers (1963-1974) as well as Bob Marley & The Wailers (1974–1981). Marley remains the most widely known and revered performer of reggae music, and is credited with helping spread both Jamaican music and the Rastafarian movement worldwide.

Marley's music was heavily influenced by social issues in his homeland. His best-known hits include "No Woman, No Cry", "Could You Be Loved", "I Shot the Sheriff", "Stir It Up", "Jamming", "Redemption Song", "Get Up Stand Up", "One Love" and, "Three Little Birds", as well as "Buffalo Soldier" and and "Iron Lion Zion" which was released posthumous. The compilation album Legend, is reggae's best-selling album.
