The Clash formed in 1976, and were part of the original wave of British punk rock bands. Their music incorporated not only Punk, but elements of dub, funk, reggae, ska, rap, and rockabilly. The band disbanded in early 1986 due to friction between it's members.

The Clash's musical experimentation, rebellious attitude and politicised lyrics had a far-reaching influence on alternative rock. The band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003, and in 2004, Rolling Stone ranked the Clash number 28 on their list of the 100 greatest artists of all time.
