The Doors were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, USA in 1965. Lead vocalist for the band was Jim Morrison, drummer John Densmore, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, and guitarist Robby Krieger. The band named itself after the title of Aldous Huxley's book The Doors of Perception, which itself was referenced to a William Blake quote: "If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite."

The Doors were among the most controversial rock acts of the 60s, mostly due to Morrison's wild, and poetic lyrics as well as his charismatic but unpredictable stage persona. After Morrison's death in 1971, the remaining members continued until 1973 as a trio before disbanding.

Although The Doors' career ended in 1973, their popularity persisted. The band has sold over 100 million albums worldwide. In 1993, The Doors were inducted as members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
